Gingerbread Party
A little party.
So...we have our Christmas Chain and one of the days was to make gingerbread houses. I've never made gingerbread houses and thought it wouldn't be that big of a deal. I decided to give my sister a call since she makes gingerbread houses every year. We chatted and she told me about the fun party she does every year for her kids. She makes a gingerbread house for each of her kids and one of their friends. Each of the kids invites a friend and they get to bring a creative candy idea to share with everyone else. I loved the idea, told my kids about it, and of course, at that point there was no turning back. We were having a party.
At 4am (in the middle of making eight houses) no matter how easy the recipe was, it was taking a LONG time to make all of these houses!
The morning of the party arrived and I had slept exactly 6 hours over about 48 hours. As silly as it sounds...it was absolutely worth it. We had so much fun!!
We had a lot of candy and I think MOST of it was eaten and some of it made it onto the gingerbread houses. Two for their mouth and one for their house. Two for their house and one for their mouth.
Even though they were eating a lot of the candy they were also being creative with their houses. Coconut for snow, gummy worms for icicles lights, and licorice for pathways...and then, of course, getting as much other candy as possible onto the house (because they needed a lot to eat later...because they didn't eat enough now...).
The kids are already talking about doing this again next year...I think maybe I'll start making the gingerbread with the kids a little earlier though. lol.

First Snow
Perfect snow.
The first snow of the winter season always feels so magical. This first snow was not a disappointment. It was the perfect consistency for snowball fights and building giant snowballs. The kids and Mike tried to make ginormous snowmen that were bigger than they are...by that time I was inside warming up Gracie's little popsicle toes and fingers.

Baby, it's cold outside...
It's cold out there.
So...it's totally a blizzard outside tonight and I love the Christmas movie, Elf. We just got the soundtrack in the mail and went online and discovered the origin of the song. I'd love to know what movie this clip is from. If you know, please tell me in the comments (Oooo...and I'd love to hear about what you love during the holidays or one of your fave traditions)!
The way they choreographed this song in the movie is so wonderful. And as much as things have changed over the last 40 or so years I still love old movies with great dialogue and the dynamic that exists there. So for your holiday cheer and comfort here's a little diddy for you....

LOVE. LIFE. TIP #3
Journaling.
The two things that give me the most inspiration in my life are journaling in the morning and the shower. I don't have any idea why I get great ideas in the shower...maybe because it's actually quiet and water cleans my brain and thoughts out and leaves a place for all the new and wonderful perspectives and ideas.
The other things that opens up my life to recieve love, thoughtfulness, and clear vision is journaling. When I think back in my life about the people that inspire me so much I realize that, for the most part, they all journal. When I wake up early, during the quiet of the morning or after the kids go to school, I have a chance to read scripture, inspirational books, and write to my heart's content.
On a typical morning I will read some scripture and write any thoughts that come to me about my kids, other people that I may be able to help in some way, my marriage, and my business. It's something that centers me, helps me to gain perspective, and also gives me a chance to meditate and pray. I need this time. It's my time to get connected to myself and to the heavens. I need guidance and inspiration that draws from my strengths and taking the time each day to give my attention to that makes a difference through out the entire day. I believe that everyone needs this time everyday. No matter what or who you believe in this time is vital for you. Study whatever helps you to get back to what you value, take time to clear your mind so that you can recieve the information that you need specifically for you.
I'm also a self help junkie. I admit it. lol. I love to have one book that I'm studying to help me in my life and in my business. Right now I'm reading Siblings Without Rivalry because I'm trying to figure out how to help my kids to squabble a little less and enjoy one another a little more, as well as empower them to solve their own problems. I love to have a book that's a novel, so that I can enjoy a book just before I drift off to sleep, that doesn't suddenly spark my brain with a bunch of new ideas. RIght now I'm reading Eat. Pray. Love.
The business book I'm reading right now is Happier. It has wonderful little pieces of writing homework throughout that I love having the chance to write about.
Taking the time to write as often as possible will give you insights into your life, heart, mind, and business that you can't get from anywhere else. You need the time. I promise.
