goals.

Here are some thoughts to help you reach your fitness goals from my health insurance company.

Goal setting can significantly increase your chances of success and achieving what you want. Below are five simple tips for reaching your goals:

-         *Write it down: By simply writing your goal down, you’ll feel more committed to it and create more     specific goals!

- S   *Start small: A good way to build confidence is to make small goals first that are easily reached. Build on your small successes.

- S   *Set reminders: Create little reminders to keep your mind on your goal. Put something on your fridge, bathroom mirror, or anywhere else you often look.

- B   *Be flexible: If something goes wrong, don’t give up. Be flexible when obstacles arise.

- R   *Reward yourself: After working hard and finally reaching your goal, reward yourself! Try to make the reward fit the goal and don’t give yourself something that contradicts the purpose of your goal. For example, don’t celebrate your weight loss with a food reward.

      healthy. LIFE.

Good one! I am totally goal motivated. I signed up for a fun walk in October to keep my walking the trails in the meantime. It helps to have fitness partners and walking with my teammates is extra fun. One of the benefits of joining an exercise group or club is meeting people you would never meet otherwise. It is fun to have new friends that have totally different jobs and hobbies than me!

Now, if we could just get this thermometer under 100!!!

Snuck in a 1/2 walk! :)

Ok. I'll start with writing down a SMALL goal right here on YOUR blog. :) I am setting a goal to lose 5 lbs by August 16th. (That's my birthday... good gift to myself right)? ;)

Great ideas. For me, moving, has to be fun. We had an amazing move it weekend - with three great bikerides on the tandem, yoga, and two walks with Cricket. My motivation right now is trying to get my $ worth out of my unlimited yoga pass for the summer.

Unlimited yoga pass sounds amazing. :)

Let's see .... I walked around town a bit today. It seems I did something else, but I can't remember.

Tomorrow, I'm going swimming w/ my adopted Burmese brother. He lives in Indiana, I in mid-kansas and on a FLUKE we're gonna be in southeast KS at the SAME TIME! I'm BESIDE myself w/ excitement!!!!!!!!!! :)

WHat did we do today ... oh, we went bowling and I used a heavier ball than usual. My shoulder doesn't like me right now.

One I heard from Runner's World: Buy expensive running shoes so you feel like you need to use them more often.

One I've found useful: Get exercise clothes you like to wear. Then make sure you wear them a lot. Most of the time, deciding to get ready to work out is the hardest step for me.

A good trick is to put your exercise clothes you like to wear on first thing in the morning. Then you are ready when the mood strikes!

I'd like to join Michelle in losing 5 pounds. :)

I can't believe how a 1/2 walk can make my day. It should be required. :)
Glad to get it in before the heat.

back in action after some vacation time.

I was reading in the July of Better HOmes + Gardens, and it had an interesting article about healthful eating ... basically it said the more hearty your breakfast, the better able you are to lose weight. So, instead of cereal and milk, have eggs b/c it has more protein. We had eggs this morning ... which is good! But we'll see how consistent I"M able to be with eating a more hearty breakfast.

Some other suggestions it made was whole wheat toast, PB and fruit, oatmeal .... what do you eat that fills you up for the morning?

Hi? Good one, Karen. :) Sounds like you had a good vaca.

So funny you should mention eggs in the morning. I know whenever I want to lose weight I should start with eggs in the morning. Not cereal or oatmeal. Not only does it fill you up, it starts the day off with protein. Sometimes I do an egg scramble then put Trader Joe's bruscetta (in the refrigerator section by the cheese) on it with goat cheese. Tres gourmet!

Another great egg dish is to sautee vegetables...onions and zucchini are good then add eggs and sundried tomatoes. Yum! Bonus getting vegetables for breakfast too!

Clever veggie infusion, Laura.

Yeah, vaca was good. But it was just to be consistent w/ comments. That's this month, right?

Ok, so it didn't stop today. I then opted to haul limestone to the area where we're going to build a patio. I wasn't sure we'd have enough stone, so I wanted to plunk it down just to be sure. But we will!

It's supposed to rain tonight, so I also went out and got 6 more barrels to convert into rain barrels. No, I probably won't do them all now, but instead of getting only 2 at a time, I figured what the heck? And the guy even helped me haul the extra 4 that wouldn't fit into Erik's SUV. :)

oh, I was also going to say I completely intended to also attend a yoga class tonight, but now I'm not sure I *need* the extra physical activity ... but it can't hurt, right?

July 2, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKaren

so, I missed yoga. :(

BUT I got overflow rain barrels up. One on each side of the house. BOO=YEAH!!!

I see you've made this your home page? :)

I had a good sales week and that makes me happy. I stayed up til midnight three nights in a row and that makes me unhappy. Balance...gotta have it!

My son casually mentioned in the car this morning that we hadn't had a date in awhile. I asked him what he had in mind. He said "how about the coffee shop?" So after swimming lessons me and the boys had lunch at the coffee shop. While we were there I noticed the group of retired men who play tennis every week then meet for coffee afterwards. It reminded me of my dad and his tax friends breakfast group. Nicholas out of the blue says "I miss Grandpa Bob". So I asked the boys if they could cheer me up by telling jokes. I love that we can talk about it, happy or sad. All day Nicholas had his eye on me and gave me extra love. He is my little barometer.

No, not my homepage, Laura!

stretching, 30-ish minutes of weights and 450 meters worth of swimming. Trying to add variety to my body won't know what's coming next! :)

Wow! Great job!

I had a morning walk for exercise then a family walk to the store in the afternoon heat. Morning walk good. Afternoon heat not so good. But I was falling into a lazy stupor so it was good to get out.

July 3, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLaura

I read in better homes and gardens that getting your exercise in the morning is best. something about getting it out of the way, then not having to do it later, or not "being tired" and then losing motivation. hmmmmm...... the trouble for us is erik doesn't wake until 11 a.m. we generally exercise in the first few hours he's up, but sometimes I've been up for EONS already ... but we like carpooling to the Y together....

This afternoon, I did MORE manual labor. Worked on putting overflow mechanisms on the rain barrels. Cut some tops off, removed trim from a door where we'll (er, I will) remove a portion of a wall, lots done! feeling very productive.

Trying to reward myself with mindless television, but we're in a tornado warning and @($*(#&$# cable has the EAS on and I can't see the show. :(
