Move it Monday Girls!!!
I'm in Marfa!
I'm so sorry I didn't post on Monday! I'm in Marfa, TX. and I'm doing The Artist's Way and in week four I'm supposed to refrain from consuming ANY media! Crazy.
I miss you, though! So I'm hurrying and posting to say hi and I didn't forget you.
If you want to check us out at Marfa you can click here.
I've been riding a banana bike around Marfa every morning for a couple of hours. It's been wonderful! I love it here.
fun. LIFE.

Sounds like an incredible journey. You know I love the riding bike idea!
No media... for a week! Umm... are you there against your will? ;) hahah!! I guess riding around town on a banana seat bike could be a good replacement! Have fun, be inspired. :)
woops, i've been slacking on my posting. but i've been doing ok on my exercising. since i posted on friday, this is what i've been up to: saturday--photographed an 8 hour wedding; monday--worked out at the gym, short cardio warm up and lifted legs; tuesday--yard work, i chopped and pulled weeds for about an hour; wednesday--that's today, made it to the 9am pilates class. we focused on glutes today.
i hope the retreat is going well. i'll check out that link to see what yall are doing.
Sounds like fun! I tried your kabob recipe, so good!
ahhhhhhh! that trip sounds amazing!!! i was just looking at the marfa site last night from a link from sarah rhoads - but i didn't know you were there too!! sooooo fun and loving all the pictures!
What a fun trip...no overstimulation!
Goin' to Home Depot today for paint chips and flowers!
Wow, looks like fun! Thanks for sharing the site!
Shoulda known you're having fun without us!
30 min of yoga, a bit of weights ... then gave blood. When I got back, Erik and friend were putting up the laundry line (attaching it to our tree). But b/c of no lifting, I couldn't play. :( Oh well, if I wake up early enough, I'll dig the hole in the morning.
Oh, also doing plenty of squats. My favorite time to do squats is when I'm brushing my teeth morning + evening. :)
Karen, you are kicking my behind, but guess what? I just signed up to do the San Jose Rock and Roll half marathon on October 4th!!! That means back on the bandwagon, walk walk walk.
Okay, you all gotta hear about this one! I was dropping my son off at daycare and I saw a water meter reader guy walking up the street. When he got to me I asked him how many miles a day he walks...NINE! How many days a week? FIVE! That is brutal! He said is gets really tired. He looked super fit. And pretty tired. This was around 9:30 and he said the perk is he is done by noon. Probably sleeps the rest of the day! And can you imagine his food bill? I couldn't help obsessing on this because nine miles once a week is hard, let alone five times!
Although I keep coming back to that covered wagon thing. They walked beside the wagons because the wagons were full of their stuff. And they didn't have sports bottles or power bars or special shoes, most of the time barefoot. And they walked everyday for months!
Ahhh...perspective!
ha! Laura, you're making me laaaaugh.
we went to the pool to be recreational, but I did some work on legs + arms .... not a really sweaty workout, but it was nice being in the water! :)
It's after midnight somewhere so don't know what day this will post.
I walked about 3 1/2 miles today. I tried a new summer thing of picking both boys up at their daycare. Nicholas' involves a hill with the stroller, so good workout. When we arrived at Charlie's school, Nicholas jumped out of the trailer to throw up. Thankfully after a bath he was fully recovered and ate a huge dinner.
Nothing like spicing up a little exercise!
Today has consisted of sitting on the couch and reading a book.
I *meant* to go to the Y ... but .... I got sucked in.
BUT I also am doing laundry. With my NEEEEEEW clothesline! So now I have to walk outside and hang all of my laundry. It's FREE drying and I get some more movement in.
I tell you what, the most difficult thing about working from home is the lack of physical activity. I get up and come downstairs. No going to the office, running to the copier, etc. I think it's been reflective of this *ahem* extra pound or three that's persistent and won't go away. I simply need to be MORE active. But yet .... it's so difficult to find the time!
But the Y is open till 9 'cuz it's summer .... maybe after these next 2 loads are up, I'll go. Maybe ... (I truly hope so!).
ok, ok, ok. who out there thought I WOULDN'T work out tonight.
I have to confess I wasn't sure it would happen.
buuuut, I did. :)
the Y closes at 9 and I couldn't find my car keys. It was 8 p.m. SHOOT. I finally got there .... and just went straight to the bikes. I stretched a *little* ... but not much. :( My hip already hurts, but that's life. I had to work out. :)
So, I did it!
30 minutes. 7 miles (I think that's a record for 30 min for me!). 260 calories burned. YEAH BABY!!!!! I have a friend who goes to the cycling class and says they burn about 600 calories in an hour, so I feel good about my intensity level tonight. Now, just to do some STREEEEETCHING!!!!!!
Summer is harder in some ways, easier in others. My teammates are getting the "band" back together and we'll walk tomorrow at 8am. It's supposed to be almost 100 degrees later. eek! I'm also challenged with the kids going to camp or being home and how to fit in my walks. It felt so good yesterday. I am craving it.
I tell you I have the throw it out bug! No corner is safe. I am slowly and not methodically working my way through the house, coming back to my office to get rid of stuff. I hear it brings abundance when you get rid of stale clutter. I have three previews next week, I'll let you know how it goes!
For dinner tonight? Mmmm...orange roughy (you gotta try it...Trader Joes) with corn tortilla, black refried beans, guac, goat cheese, and Mexican Rice a Roni.
Karen, I absolutely LOVE all your green projects. You are an inspiration!
Oh, I also read (ok, read the first section, I was working HARD!), an article in Omagazine about cross-cultural efforts to trim down. :)

i'm so so so so glad i met you! your incredible warmth makes me feel so very much at peace.
Back in the saddle. Walked 6 miles this morning with my old teammates. We were SO trumped by the group of Breast Cancer 3-day walkers in training. They were going to walk 12 miles today. At their event they will walk three days of 20 miles each! It's easy to compare and contrast my 13 mile event, but hey, it's all going to a great cause. I bow down to them with respect and admiration.
It's going to be 106 degrees today. Thank goodness for AC.
Hauled scrap medal w/ a buddy ... sweat like a pig.
Did squats.
Drank a beer. Undid all the good.
Karen, your last entry you sound like a guy! You go girl! Girls can do anything! It is so freakin' hot here. 104 degrees! I'm afraid to go outside but we have bored kids so we're going to grandma and grandpa's pool. Maybe a Jamba Juice on the way. Can you bring your own cup to JJ? Trying to boycott styrofoam.
