So who is with me?

Posted on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at 09:10AM by Registered CommenterDavina in , | Comments26 Comments

goodbye.

So I've been traveling so much and sitting at a computer for too many hours it's time to put a stop to this ridiculous nonsense.  It's true.  I've gained waayyyy too much weight over the past year or so.  It's got to come off.  It's time to say goodbye to it!!!  Especially by the time Love Affair gets here!!!

This is my plan.  I walk every morning for at least 20 minutes (until my body can handle running).  Then 10 minutes of lifting weights.  I know this sounds like a wimpy plan but I need to start somewhere.  Just to do this I have to get up at 6am.  I love walking and getting out into the fresh air just as the world is waking up and the sun is about to come over the mountains.  My main desire here is that I just be consistent.  I just want to make sure that I stick with a plan continuously for the next year.  To me, continuity is what takes the weight off for real.  I'm not about losing weight the fastest---just about doing something everyday.  Also, I'm trying to take smaller portions and then leave just a little food on my plate.  If I want chocolate...which I always do!...I get to have one small square of dove milk chocolate (that would be a huge cutback from the 1/2 bag that I usually eat these days...ummm...yes, that's embarrassing....)  And the after 8pm eating has got to go too....

Who is with me?  All you need to do is at least 20 minutes of exercise 6 days a week and eat smaller portions.  If you want to do more than that go for it but that's the minimum.  We're going for being consistent.  And doesn't 20 mintues totally sound do-able?  Maybe we could make a contest out of it some how.  Any ideas?  Tell me in the comments if you're interested and then we'll see how we can make it into a fun, friendly competition.

get. LIFE.

Hey, I'm also on a weight loss kick and have had really good luck with www.thedailyplate.com. You can track your caloric intake, and it tells you how much you can consume based on your weight, activity level, and weight loss goals. Plus, you can track your exercise, so it's great motivation to be active (so you can eat more, and yes, that is totally my goal!). Just thought I'd pass on the good news. :)

I'm with you! I've gained way too much weight since I've been married. Don't be embarrassed by the chocolate. Pretty much every woman I know does the same thing :)

Hey.. this sounds great! What if you incorporated the Nike running shoes & iPod thing? It tracks your calories.. time... and distance. The cool thing about it is that you can upload it online, and everyone involved can participate and compete! Just an idea.. I have seen alot of photog's doing this lately and I thought it was cool!

Courtney,

I don't have nike shoes or the other thingy...how does that work?

April 16, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterDavina

I'm in!

Oh, I am SO with you!! I've gained 15 pounds in the last year. 15 pounds Davina!! I so need to work on portion control. And chocolate cravings. And Arctic Circle ice cream shake cravings (and indulgences!!). And sitting in front of the computer WAY too much.

I did yoga the other day. It was AWESOME! Have you ever tried it? You'd be suprised at how much of a workout it is. My muscles were SHAKING at the end of the session. And it was such an enjoyable workout. It's supposed to bring peace to your mind and soul and TONE your body at the same time!

Good for you, Davina! I neeed to do some of that too... That baby weight from about 4 years ago hasn't left on its own, as much as I try to make it feel unwelcome. :)

I LOVE yoga Rebekah! I have a few workout dvds (I also have some pilates) I was thinking of incorporating them a couple of times a week after I get consistent with this simple workout idea. I think I just get too gungho sometimes and burn myself out before I even get started. I agree. Yoga is a GREAT workout.

Shannon, I hear you on that baby weight.

Well, I'm off to go for my 20 minute walk this morning. Anyone else?

Kelly, I'm still thinking about a contest idea. We'll come up with something!

April 17, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterDavina

Your fellow Kelly Moore did a weight loss contest a few months back and posted this:
*The winner(and myself) will receive:
Day 1: A Manicure, Pedicure, Massage & Facial. From there, we’ll have dinner and a movie.
Day 2: A makeover and your very own fashion shoot from yours truly.
It's a possibility...
I have had baby weight for 2 YEARS now so it was time to get serious... I saw a nutritionist last friday and to date - less than a week - i've already lost 6 lbs!!! okay, some (most) probably is water weight, but still smaller portions (5x a day at 1200 calories total) and light amounts of booty shakin' really DOES the trick.

YES! After the evil medication weight I've gained in the last year, I"m ready.

I'm actually training for a triathlon! Well, I'll just do the swimming, but you KNOW! I also can't wait to move to an area with a gym ... can you say YOGA???

BTW, Me Ra Koh is also doing something similar .... maybe you should all band together.

Davina, I swear you are an answer to prayer!! I was trying to decide if I should spend the money and join weight watchers (again) or not. You have given me the motovation to just cut back on the food and get up and move!!! I am going to spend the money on a good pair of walking shoes and some weights instead.
We can do this!!

i'm totally on board. i've been watching the biggest loser on tv and the fact that i gained 10lbs from watching other people lose weight...sigh. So i've started talking afternoon walks with my 10-month old nephew. I have one of those Nike+ things for my ipod to track and post my workouts. That would be fun. we can have weekly distance competitions. we all post our stats.

anyway, i'm with ya. i also learned yesterday that you can lose more weight if you seperate your carbs and protein. let them break down separately in your system.

April 18, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterRobin Dini

Okay, Robin and Courtney. I think I'm going to go out and look for that Nike+Ipod thing tonight on my date with my husband. I'll let you know how it goes. By Monday I'm hoping to have a cool competition for all of us. If anyone has any other ideas, let me know.

The thing with this competition is that we going for consistency, not the most weight lost, or the fastest lost. So we need something that will motivate us weekly or monthly. I'm happy to give away some fun prizes I just am trying to figure out how we'll decide the winner every couple of weeks....

Make sure to get your 20 mintues in today! And smaller portions...or at least leave something on your plate...
