Move it Monday. March 1st

Posted on Monday, March 1, 2010 at 04:01PM by Registered CommenterDavina in , | Comments44 Comments

getting a healthy start.

I'm so excited that there are so many women wanting to get healthy!  There are so many aspects to having a healthy life that reach beyond getting on the scale.  For me though, getting on the scale everyday gives me a goal and something to measure each morning.  A little reminder that what I'm doing is worth the trouble.  I love seeing a 1/4 pound come off here and one pound come off there.  It also helps me to recognize that I'm feeling better, more fit, more positive, more aware of what I'm doing to be healthy.

Here are 10 steps to better health that I found here.

Look through these and see how you're doing.  Take one of these steps and incorporate it into your life this week.  Better yet...pick two! (Kind of like you can at Panera...ummm...I may have good food on the brain too much...)

1.  Eat a healthy breakfast (that may or may not be a bowl of Golden Grahams...)

2.  Drink at least eight 8 ounce glasses of water everyday.

3.  Take a good quality mulitvitamin/mineral supplement.

4.  Connect with other people everyday...many times a day.  For good health give and receive plenty 'o hugs and kisses.  Talk to the people  you love.  Laugh.

5.  Express your emotions appropriately.

6.  Eat fruits and veggies.  Eat the rainbow.

7.  Spend at least 30 minutes outdoors.

8.  Do something physically active.

9.  Take some quiet time for yourself.

10.  Keep regular sleep hours.

bonus:  Establish a relationship with a doctor you can trust.

So what's the contest this month, you ask?

Here it is:

1.  Post here every day this month.  Tell us what you weigh.  Yes.  You read that right.  Tell us what you weigh and what you'd like to weigh by the end of the year.

2.  Tell us what you're doing every day from the list above to be healthy.

3.  The person who is the most consistent poster here everyday in March will be the prize winner this month.

Prize:

1.  A $25 gift certificate to your fave place to shop!

(I'd like to have some really great prizes that inspire you to get healthy...so send me an email or tell me in the comments what kinds of prizes will motivate you!)

healthy. LIFE.

180... goal is 160 by the end of the year.

Today, I started the day with a normal bowl of cereal... and threw in a handful of blueberries for good measure :) Despite a busy schedule, I also managed to get a quick Jillian Michael's "30 day shred" video in (and am feeling it already... only hours later).

Seriously?! Ok. ;)
I weigh 160. My goal is 130.
Today I am running for 30 minutes & keeping a food journal. Good sleep is already a habit, thank goodness. I am also hoping to implement the daily multi vitamin habit today. :)

I have a LOT to lose...so it's rather embarassing to post my weight...but... it's 300.2 (I started at 313 a few weeks ago). Today I had a great healthy breakfast...hot oatbran....an orange and some reduced fat cottage cheese. I am almost done w/all 8 glasses of water and I just took my vitamin.Ate tons of fruits and veggies today (and even journaled everything I ate)...and am looking forward to all my sleep tonight :)

I love your posts -- infact I linked to it today on my blog. Okay, weight is not my issue - I weigh 110 so just maintain. The area I continue to work on and enjoy the benefits is eating HEALTHIER (I love sugar and candy) and exercising -- yoga, cycling, and walking are my favorites and this year really hoping to find a runner (blind so need to have a guide) my speed that we can work up to a 5K by the end of the summer.

Here goes...I weigh 150, down from 165 last year, and my goal by the end of the year is 135. I've been fighting a cold, so I took the day off work and let myself rest...not always easy to do. I drank several glasses of water and took my vitamins, and I'll make sure to get in bed at a good time! Thanks for Move it Mondays, every little bit of inspiration helps.

Good lord Davina, I cant believe i'm about to do this. I weigh 215. YIKES! However, I lost 4 lbs since last Monday!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!! I've been using the SparksPeople that somebody (Katie???) mentioned last week and I am absolutely in love with it.

i'm not sure what i weigh, i'll guess 111, but i'll check at the gym tomorrow and post what it really is. i'd like to weigh 117 by the end of the year--higher would be fine, but i'm not sure how much muscle i can build without two-a-days, and i'm not trying to do that. consistent cardio and lifting is a better, attainable goal.

my two picks from the list are going to be 8-8 oz glasses of water/day. i know i don't drink nearly enough water. AND taking a multivitamin and extra calcium supplement everyday. it is sooo stupid that i don't do this. my husband and i aren't trying to have a kid right now, but it's still just not smart for me to not be getting enough folic acid--surprises happen. and since i'm thin, and my mom has osteoporosis (since like 50), and her mom, and her mom, it is just so so stupid for me not to be doing everything i can now to prevent having the same problem later.

thanks for the encouragement.

Ladies! Way to go to putting your weight and goals here. That is a big step to getting healthy. I'm so proud of all of you. I'm at 140. Which at this point is up 10 pounds from last year...bummer. I would like to be 120 by the end of the year. When I got down to 129 I still had 9 pounds to go. I stayed at 129-131 for a really long time. Then just since Christmas time I've put the rest of the pounds on (and the same time that I wasn't doing Move it Monday...strangely enough...I need accountability). I'm back on track.

I'll be here for all of you! Let's do this!

Woah. Davina, you're really getting us right out of the gate. OK, so I'm 141.5.

As far as goals, I don't want to drop below 135 (I'm 5"10). Honestly, at the end of the year, we'd like to be in baby mode, so I'll probably weigh more. But my friends w/ kids tell me it's easier post baby if your weight was low before baby. So I guess 135 is my goal.

My goal for the month is to take my vitamins every day. I'm a bit bad about that. I also need to spend some quiet time each day, too.

I'd challenge people to really read labels ... the sugars hidden in everything is totally out of control! My breakfast daily consists of shredded wheat (NO frosted mini wheats) and frozen cherries. At first, I thought it was bland, but it's REALLY grown on me. I need to clear out an hour so I can make some steel cut oats.

OH, Davina, on prizes .... I find it hard because I want to eat something I shouldn't ... ya know? But yesterday, I treated myself by buying 2 new pair of pants, 1 size smaller than I normally wear. My usual pants are getting really baggy ... so I find rewarding myself with new pants is a great motivator. I even got them on e-bay, so they weren't too expensive. And if they don't fit just right (i.e. they're too tight), all the better motivation to work out more!

i hate talking about my weight, so this will be good for me. right now, i think i am somewhere around 185, but our scale is wrong so i am not positive. by the end of the year i would like to lose about 40 pounds. so far, i have cut out sweets and soda, i also gave up eating meat for the 40 days of lent to see if it will help me to eat more veggies (it has) and i have been drinking more water. about a month ago, i started going to bed earlier and actually sleeping in my bed (rather than falling asleep on the couch). good luck to all of you on your goals!

I'm 140 again today. I didn't eat well at all last night. I waited too long to eat lunch and got shakey which sends me into eating anything in sight to get rid of the shakes.Today I was planning to get out the door and exercise but I let the weather get the best of me. I need to do some kind of indoor exercise before I lay my head on the pillow tonight. I definitely need to go outside...I've been outside for about 10 minutes in the last 2 days. I knew I was out of my habits...I thought I was only a little bit out of my good habits...I think I've been kidding myself...

I did pretty good today, I ate an orange and some strawberries which is 100% more fruit than I usually eat, plus I drank a bottle of water and got 8 hrs of sleep last night. Yay!

March 2, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterChelsea

the not so good: i didn't go to the gym today. the yucky weather got the better of me too. so i don't have an official weigh in number yet. but i did 30 min of pilates at home, so i still got some exercise in.

the great: i met my two goals. i drank 8, 8 oz glasses of water today, and took my vitamin and calcium supplements. sweet. it wasn't as challenging as i thought it would be, i just had to be conscience of it all day.

Bravo! Funny...there was a time when I would not have dreamed of posting my weight for the world to see but I am over that. I am 147.5 today. My goal is 130. I would LOVE to see the 120s again but am really not sure that is realistic. I am 5' 4", by the way. I am trying little by little to be healthier overall. One of my worst habits is to get 5-6 hours of sleep per night. Some nights less. I have been improving but break my own rules all the time saying, "Just one more thing..." and suddenly I've spent 4 hours on the computer while my family snoozes away upstairs. I really want to feel balanced and at peace--something I haven't felt in years. Losing weight would be wonderful, but serenity is goal #1 right now. I think healthy eating and regular sleep are a huge part of that and both will contribute to losing weight so if I maintain my focus I should see and feel improvements in both mind and body. Love this online support!
