Move your Booty. Week 2.

do something.

I'm so excited that so many of you are just getting off of the couch and getting your legs going, taking smaller portions, and leaving some food on your plate.  I'm with you!! That's what I did this week.

We're in this together.  Don't give up!!

Here are a couple of things you can check out to help you in your work out:

Do you want to know what your BMI (body mass index) is?  Fill in your height and weight and it will tell you if you fall into the underweight, overweight, or obese category.  Go to this link and click on 'adult bmi calculator':  http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/bmi/

If you want to know how far you are walking/running/biking everyday click here:  http://www.gmap-pedometer.com

The challenge for the week:  If you are a soda drinker, cut back by 50%.  I know this may sound difficult but just try it out and see how you feel when next Monday comes.  I want to hear how you're doing and what you think!  Is this too difficult?

I'm feeling better and a lot more in control of what I'm eating and putting into my mouth.  I'm also really feeling like this wee I could stat with some running.  I'm pretty excited.  I'm planning to do it in a kind of circuit training type of approach.  I'll be starting off at a walk for five minutes, sprint for about 100-150 yards and then walk for a about 150 yards, then sprint.  I'll do my entire 20 minutes that way.  I'm thinking this will help to boost my energy and I'll feel like I'm taking another doable, manageable step.

So tell me what you're going to do this week...and you soda drinkers, how difficult is cutting back to 50% of them is going to work for you?

***MAKE SURE you are posting in the comments how you are doing.  I'll be announcing the details of the contest Tuesday!!***

changing. LIFE.

I coincidently have been trying to eat and be healthier recently as well. I've been calorie counting and staying under 1500 calories per day (I use sparkpeople.com to calorie count and for lots of other resources, and its free! My username is ashleybart), and eating lots of fruits and veggies. I'm a diet coke addict, but I've tried to cut back to about one a day and drink water the rest of the time. I'm working up to full gym workouts but have been taking my dog for much longer walks than normal, and just trying to be more active in general. Lost 4lbs my first week, yay! Staying under 1500 calories has been really difficult at times (especially with my sweet tooth), but I can feel my appetite adjusting already.

wow that was long sorry lol :) Thanks for connecting those of us trying to be healthier!

Ashley, awesome!! Congrats to you on trying to live a healthier lifestyle and be active. And way to go on the one diet coke a day. I know for soda addicts it's very difficult to quit and then stay away from it. So wohoo for you! And you gotta love that you shed 4 pounds after one week!

Robin, I'm so glad to hear that you're down to 80% on the pop. Walking with your nephew...way to be consistent.

Later on today I'm going to announce the Get Moving contest!

I have started jogging the last couple of weeks. I have been doing a mile every couple of days. Davina says I need to take it easy because I am getting old and my knee hurts sometimes (bummer!), but I went jogging with our 11 year old Emmett yesterday and it was fun to jog with someone. My favorite quote of the day was "Dad, are you breathing heavy yet?" I answered, "A little." He, through heavy breathing said, "I'm not, I'm doing great!" I love his enthusiasm. Keep it up, everyone, it is so nice to feel more in control and not at the mercy of food!

I've been doing pretty good with keeping up on the jogging, in spite of going on vacation to Arizona last week. I got up early before it got too hot and jogged around my sister's neighborhood for about 20 minutes. And when we went out to eat or she made a big meal, I left food on my plate.

I'm also drinking tons of water. I find that if I drink a lot of ice water throuhgout the day, I feel full so I don't feel like snacking.

Down 4 pounds since last Tuesday. Not much but it's a start :)

Lets keep up the good work!

I just started a swimming routine Monday. I am going to meet with a personal trainer on Saturday to discuss a workout routine for the machines inside the gym. A tip for those that are cutting back on the coke: When I wanted to quite driking coke, I went and got some propel fitness water powder singles to mix in a bottle of water. It really helped me to have a replacement like that. Now I just drink water. The only time I drink coke is when I got to my fave hamburger place!

I've been seeing a nutritionist and it's soooo true what they say.... sugar is addicting!!! She says it stays in your body for 3 days. That's why we crave it even after a day or two.
I have been on a low calorie diet (1300, eating every 2.5 - 3 hours 5 or 6 times a day) and have found it surprisingly easy -AFTER the first week. The first week was not fun, but I don't crave sugar anymore even though we have it around the house.. YAY! That's a huge achievement for me.
Since i've been doing it for 3 weeks i've lost 9 lbs.
