Move it Monday: Kids + Yoga

will my kids like yoga?

Kids are like sponges, soaking up everything you do and say. Now is the time to lead them to a
healthy lifestyle: encouraging daily exercise and mindful, healthy eating.

A great way to get your kids engaged in exercise, without them really even knowing that they are exercising, is to do yoga with your kids. Without fail, every time I roll my yoga mat out on my living room floor, my kids get excited and run over to join me. We do sun salutations together, we bark in downward dog and we meow in cat pose. We have airplane contests: who can hold the pose the longest, we support each other in
headstand and we cheer each other on in crow pose. We even explode like volcanoes.

We move our bodies, we connect and most importantly we laugh. We find joy in our yoga practice together which sets them on the path to enjoying the movement of their bodies.

She also believes that yoga (and a little bit of humor) leads to a significant decrease in stress and keeps those practicing looking and feeling young! My 7yo has done yoga classes here in San Antonio through Yoginos. He LOVED it. He would go in grumpy and tired and come out relaxed and refreshed! We don't do the classes anymore but he will do their DVD here at home!

Yoga is not only really calming for kids, it can also help them learn better. Being calm enables the kid to be more receptive and retentive to learning. Here are some really good poses to try with your kids: http://bit.ly/FreeKidsYogaPose

No yoga post for me ... let's talk about my insane biking. Still chiseling away at it. STarted the month w/ 90 miles to go. Now at about 1/3 of that. Ye-HAW! :)

I was at yoga on Thursday night and wanted to meow during the cat pose, but I thought it might distract the others in class. Boy was it tempting, though!!!! ;)
