Gracie's Birthday. Part II
getting ready.
Since Gracie's birthday was about flowers and butterflies and Strawberry Shortcake and princesses we incorporated flowers into the decorating and sat around making tissue paper flowers for the entire week before her party. I attempted a Strawberry Shortcake cake decoration job. And it's definitely not superb or even very good or mediocre...but Gracie thought it was the best ever. And that's enough for me.
We had so much fun getting ready for this party. The girls and I sat around the table talking and making flowers and then we baked Gracie's cake and laughed until everyone was just too tired to do any more...and then I stayed up until 4am finishing everything up...yes, I'm insane.
I can't help it. I love a good party.
fun. LIFE.

SO cute! Can you come here and plan our birthday parties? :)
I want a girl!
Boys don't care about making really sweet flowers and colors and style... We just had my son's 7th bday party. No flowers. Just a big fat bouncy house.
BUT even though it wasn't stylish... it sure was fun!
Adorable! And by the way, I *love* the paint colors in your house!
Cute! Those flowers are so fun to make!
can you put up a tutorial on making the flowers? they are gorgeous and so was the party!
yay! I hope I'm a fun mom like you some day! For now I'll settle for being a fun nanny :D
I used to make tissue paper flowers when I was little and I'd forgotten how, but now I remember!
Yes, please share how you made the flowers and/or where you got the stuff that was needed to make them! So cute! You're such a great mom!
Oh, and that cake is adorable too!
you're the coolest mom I know:) My 2 year old hasn't had a party yet (hurricane Gustav cancelled the 2nd party for us) My middle child's birthday was in March, still haven't had party, and my oldest daughter's birthday is in August and we didn't celebrate until November (again thanks to Gustav) I am gonna have one huge party this summer, waterslides, hotdogs, cookie cake, etc. for all 3 of my kids. I am really gonna try harder next year to make them feel so special on their birthday:)
Jodie, that would be fun!
Kim, I'm 100% sure that your son's party was a blast. YOU are too much fun. I have to say, girls are fun, though!
Thanks, Amy!
Melissa, I just put up a video on how to make the flowers...let me know how it goes for you!
Janet, thank you. Those parents will love you for being a fun nanny!
Ann, I'm so excited to share how we made them. I just posted a video!
Thank you for liking the cake. :)
Abby, I have to tell you (this idea is going to be one of my love. life. tips.) that we don't have big parties every year(thanks for thinking I'm a fun mom, though!). With four kids that many parties can get to be a lot of pressure and I want the parties to stay fun...for everyone (including me).
Every year is a family-only-party except the 5th, 10th, and 15th or 16th birthdays. We still have fun and make plans for every party, every year (because we know everyone likes to be celebrated!). We just go all out with cool themes, etc. for the 5th, 10th, and 15th/16th birthday parties and they get to invite friends and all of that fun stuff.
I'm sure your kids will feel special on their birthdays this year...maybe more so because of the extra effort required to make it happen. Good luck! You are a very thoughtful, loving mom, Abby.
Davina, that very last shot on the right looks EXACTLY like you! How adorable and what great party decorations. Your kids are so lucky. :)
