Move it Monday.

Posted on Monday, March 23, 2009 at 09:04AM by Registered CommenterDavina in | Comments46 Comments

don't quit.

So over the last few weeks I've been kind of lax about what I eat and how hard I exercise. It hasn't really shown on the scale at all. I've been thinking, "Oh yay! My metabolism is still keeping up." I hadn't LOST any weight but I hadn't really gained any either.

Well...this past week all of that caught up with me. I exercised a little better and a little harder this week than I had been and tried a little not to eat so much. On Saturday, though, we went to the Clover St. Patrick's Day Fair and ate funnel cakes and pizza and cotton candy.

That put me over the top. I have officially gained some weight.

So...today I went out and busted it on the track and went 3 miles and did 6 sprints. I also am having a lunch without the fat free chips that I love.

It's now time for me to get serious again and get this last 15 pounds off. So I'm doing it. Less food, more exercise. Speaking of the exercise bit...I have become a little wimp about doing my strength training...my arms are looking like relief society arms again. Time to amp up the weights on my triceps!! So I also did some pushups and situps today. Tomorrow I'll be working my triceps with the full three reps of weights instead of the wimp out one rep I've been doing lately.

SO...All of you who have wimped out this month...you know who you are....

Just because you haven't been posting every day that you work out this month don't lose heart. Remember that there is a bigger contest going on to get you healthy.  (Not to mention that swimsuit season is coming up...and you KNOW you want to go to the pool...)  The yearly contest counts too! Remember the details? Don't give up posting as often as possible:

Contest for this year:

The winner will receive a full day with me. It can be a Day with Davina or it can be a full day of a photo session with me. You get to choose. It will also include other goodies that we will add onto the winner's package through out the year. You will want to win this!

To win:

*Be the person that posts the most often on Move it Monday through out the entire year.

*Keep a journal and have at least 12 entries by the end of the year. (That's just one per month...this is about getting some consistent habits.)

*Check in every week on Move it Monday comments.

*Get 20 minutes of exercise at least 4 days a week.

*Start eating off of smaller plates...or at least eat much smaller portions at every meal.

Now, I know that you can't do this every single day of your life. Take it a day at a time. Do the best you can. Don't give up. The person that does the best at developing consistency will be the winner. It's not really about being the one that loses the most weight (although I think that it will be a natural thing that will happen) it's about changing your approach to food and moving your body.

Get back in the contest!  Do it for YOU!

healthy. LIFE.

Alright Shannon! Way to go!

I went with my boy scouts to the YMCA and swam tonight. They passed off some swimming requirements and then we played, I swam 6 laps (two each of three different strokes) and realized that it has been WAY too long since I have been in the pool. We then had competitions like seeing who can hold their breath the longest, how far can you swim underwater without coming up for air, and who can walk furthest on their hands. I am too competitive to not give it my all so I got quite a lung workout as well as all the swimming related muscles. I am excited about summer and the swimming season!

Keep it up everyone, this is totally helping me to come here and be accountable. Thanks Davina!

I love all the new energy in the group. Great job everyone! I walked today and it was beautiful weather and so cleansing to take deep breaths and work my lungs. I also enjoy the meditative benefit of walking.

I wanted to add a little tip that I've been doing before I walk as part of my stretching/warmup. I do a half lunge with one leg going back onto my toes, then pull the same leg up to my chest. My arms pump in alternate to my leg. Twenty times each side. This warms up my legs for walking but also works my obliques in my stomach to (hopefully) slim and trim my waist. It is kind of fun too. I actually do it at an angle instead of straight back.

P.S. my favorite stretch is "child's pose" love it!

It is amazing what a great workout you can get by being in the water! I thinking that I am going to try to do my 20 of yoga before I go swimming every day, it just makes me feel so much better! Stretching so good for you. Since my husband hadn't been lifting weights in a while yesterday he said that he went thru this normal weight routine but with the weight really low and he just stretched thru each exercise, he said that he is still feeling the good soreness form just doing that.:)

Today was a great day for a walk! Feeling good. I want to get out my journal and document all my revelations I have on my walks. Thanks for the reminder Davina!

I spent 2 hours in the car today to/from a NILMDTS session ... so I was a slacker. BUT I have to say ... HEALTHY SNACKS! :)

Keeping gobs of carrots in the fridge, as well as strawberries ... go healthy snacks! I can't imagine how I lived before these fresh fruits came into season.

Today was rainy all day here...not great for walking outside. Emmett had a choir performance at school and we did a bunch of laps around the school looking at student's work posted in the hallways. Instead of grabbing a bite to eat on the way home (fast food is all they have in our small town), I made some spaghetti for us when we got home...much less fat and it was delicious!

Karen, thank you for doing NILMDTS. It is a gift.
You get a by in exchange for that.

This year I've taken on the challenge to walk in the Breast Cancer 3-Day in November. If you're not familiar with what it is, it's a 60 mile walk over the course of three days (20 miles a day).

At first I thought "This will be easy. Even though it's 20 miles, I'll only be walking. It's not like I'll be running 20 miles."

Boy, was I wrong. My first "training walk" was 5 miles 3 weeks ago. I thought I was going to die the next day. My legs were killing me! I've done weight training and cardio at the gym, but this was different. I've upped the mileage a little since then. Some days are harder than others. There have been times when I've wanted to turn around and go back home (especially on Monday when I decided to walk 5 miles in a snow storm!).

So, this is my exercise - physical and emotional. I've given myself this challenge, and I'm going to finish it. I know it will be hard, but I know it will be worth it :)

It's FREEZING and snowing on one of the last days in March.

I'm going back to the fat farm. ;)

Ok, I only did squats today, but I just am too lazy to muster up the energy to go to the Y, work up a sweat, bundle up (all sweaty and get my coat gross), and come home and shower.

L-A-Z-Y Karen.

Julie, THANK YOU for walking. We have two cancers in my family, though not breast, but all research helps all cancers. I applaud you for doing the three-day. I'm walking 13 miles half marathon with TEAM in Training and it is long enough! Today I walked my 2 mile walk to school and back. Pushing two kids in the trailer/stroller. My eight year old told me if he rode in the wagon it would give me a better workout. :) He was right! Tomorrow is my big walk day. I need walking more than ever for my mental health.

I give you guys a lot of credit for getting out there in crazy spring weather. I live in N.California and we are pretty golden right now, since it finally stopped raining and Noah grounded the ark. :)

Julie, that is awesome! I need to get involved with a cause and maybe I would be more inspired to work hard on my exercise.

It was a tough day for me. I worked until past 5 and then was out until just a few minutes ago when I took the babysitter home. It is still drizzly here...three days now and I am going a bit stir crazy. I hope to do weights in the morning--a rare Saturday to be able to sleep in and stay home! Yay!

Made another 8 mile walk today! I'm so stiff! I was thinking that once TEAM in Training is done I won't have this motivation to excercise everyday. I'll need a new goal. :)

ok, there's 6+ inches of snow on the ground. I can barely open the front door.

so, I opted for SQUATS when I woke up. I tell you what, they look funny, but I think they do good things to my glutes. :)

Raining all day...again!

Did a little bit of leg work at the end of a hectic day. Emmett turns 12 tomorrow so we have been doing A LOT to get ready for his party. We are pretty excited...maybe I am more excited than he is!

Be safe in all that snow Karen! Great job with the 8 miles Laura...wow!

day of rest

day of rest

day of rest

i did dish up a WAY smaller portion of chili tonight .... i'm doing better about taking smaller portions. :)

March 29, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKaren

I'm with Karen. Day of rest. My knees think I'm crazy. I talk to them regularly, offering encouragement. Today I will give them a break. My whole family has had "the cold" and I feel creepings of it.

It is really eye opening to be connected to you all in different parts of the country. We have been really spoiled with sunny weather here. Anyone from Fargo? Now THAT is craziness! Take care and stay safe, rain, wind and snow!

Davina, shall we all meet up in Hawaii?

March 29, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLaura

Hawaii sounds perfect, Laura!

Day of rest here as well. Emmett is now 12 and we had a party for him tonight. It blows my mind that we have a near teenager...craziness.

I lived in Moorhead, Minnesota (the twin city with Fargo, ND) for about 4 months in 1990. It was a beautiful town...my heart is hurting for all the difficulties those poor people are having. They could really use our prayers.

Here's to a great week ahead for all of us!

Working up the energy to go work work out. I'm still a *little* nervous about people seeing my ugly bruise.

March 30, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKaren

wait. is this month almost up???? unreal.

March 30, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKaren

Oh my. I thought it was spring!! We had 3 inches of snow on the ground when I woke up this morning, yuck! Snow makes it hard to be motivated, but the sun is out so that helps... a little ;)

5 miles again today. Woo hoo! Kinda rough after skipping two days in a row (usually I'll only miss one day in between training walks).

Keep up the good work everyone! :)
