Move it Monday.

Posted on Monday, January 26, 2009 at 07:05PM by Registered CommenterDavina in | Comments10 Comments

6 ways.

So sorry everyone! I had different plans for Move it Monday today but my computer isn't cooperating and the day has just sped by too quickly. So I'm going to post some tips that I was just sent by my wellness coordinator otherwise known as my health insurance company :).

Six Tips to Help Keep You on Track

1 – Focus on positive self-talk. Congratulate yourself every time you take a step toward better health and accomplishing your goals.

2 – Avoid beating yourself up if you should fall back or stumble. Set backs are a part of success so pick yourself up and start again.

3 – Stick to your goals by considering it a promise to yourself, not a test of your willpower.

4 – Avoid situations that put you in temptation’s path; create a positive environment for success at work and at home.

5 – Keep a sticky note in a prominent place to remind yourself of your goals.

6 – Be realistic. Make sure your goals are realistic ones that can fit into your lifestyle. Make changes as easy and convenient as possible.

Keep moving everyone!  After being so sick last week I was so grateful to be able to get out and walk again this morning!

How are you doing?  Any great exercises, recipes, or other fun stuff?

fit. LIFE.

I think that if you have support from your spouse, significant other or friend it makes it so much easier to stay with your healthy living goal. That way if someone falls off course or gets discouraged you have another person there to get you back on track.

this week was harder than most....eating out alot on weekends tends to be difficult to stay healthy....in both portion size and actual food choices!!!! I need restaurant-survival tips!!!! I did find whole grain brown rice freeze-dried into single servings in the freezer section at Trader Joes!Recommended by a family friend who is a nutritionist/trainer Perfect when you are short on time and need a complex carb to complement your protein!!!

I'm needing #2. I need to not beat myself up...I ate really badly today. I did good up until 7:00 pm!! Whats up with that?

I've gone back to using Weight Watchers points. I just needed that accountability. I've lost 4 lbs!! Also, if anyone is looking for a good workout video, try Turbo Jam. Yes, the one on the infomercial..but buy it on Amazon. Just buy the dvd, it's like $15. It's AMAZING!!! I love it. I'm going to start it again tomorrow. I got it over the summer for my sisters wedding!! LOL Anyway, i'm not kidding, you will be slimmer in a week. It will kick your butt, but you'll feel Awesome!!!

Ooh, how did you know? I totally fell off track after getting sick last week and I'm trying to get back into the healthy habits I was developing. Rather than get disappointed in myself I am trying to accept that it's okay to fall every now and then. We deserve a treat from time to time. The key is not to overdo it.

I think it's important to find some kind of physical activity to participate in regularly. I get bored to death in a gym (even with my awesome playlist) so this week I am going to try out a dance workout program (called Dance Trance, but I think it's only in the Southeast). Swimming and playing with your dogs are also great ways to exercise without realizing it!

Another thing I thought about that encourages me to eat healthy is my little veggie and herb garden. I just have a tiny porch but I have several varieties of peppers, tomatoes, basil, oregano, and chives growing out there. It's fun to cook at home and grab some fresh things from my own garden. Plus my cooking is cheaper, healthier, and tastier than most restaurants! Bonus!

My tooth brushing technique has not happened here at home, but one thing I am determined to do is walk! I have a walking buddy twice a week. We have a family walk on the weekend. I make a game of getting another day in somewhere. Sometimes I will add spice to my walk by doing a low impact "run" for a little bit along my route. Or walk up and down the curb instead of just straight. Meander a bit while still keeping up the pace.

I did see some great tips about feeling better about yourself on MSN homepage by doing one small thing. My favorites were 1) Do 15 pushups a day. It just takes a minute, you can do it in your pajamas, work up to more as you improve. The girl that suggested it said that's all she changed and she lost 6 pounds, increased her self confidence and was motivated to eat better. 2) Wear red lipstick. Even in your casual clothes a dash of color is a pick me up! 3) Wear skirts more. Another self image booster. Even with a T and flip flops you can feel sassy. When I am tempted to put my sweats on in the morning I will say to myself "it takes the same amount of effort to put on jeans as sweats (or a skirt!)

Do you have any stairs in your house? Just go up and down the stairs. I've done laps around my house when it's been raining outside. Or just get some cans of soup and do some 'weight' lifting. Get moving in the simplest way you can. :)

Great tip to write things down. I've been unprepared all week as far as lunches are concerned and it really been terrible. I just have to keep reminding myself to stay away from old patterns. Thanks Davina. I look forward to your photos and your posts.

Hi Everyone! My computer has been wacky all week but I wanted to post here before another move it monday came along! I have a few tips, and by tips I mean things that I have started trying in the last few weeks and I really hope they work for me! First is I bought a yoga dvd that has 5 20 min sessions on it, I have never done yoga before but I have fallen completely in love with it! I has stated doing it in the morning with my son and now my husband has joined us and I can't believe how much better I feel after! And it is all from the comfort of my living room! Next tip is going to bed early, and getting up early to walk my kids to school, yes it is cold but that wakes me up and I have felt pretty good thru out the days. So those were some of the changes I have made and I am pretty happy with how much better I feel, less stress is my goal!!! Have a great week!!
