Seven Pounds Movie.  SPOILER.

crazy bad.

I just got home from seeing Seven Pounds and I have to say I couldn't be more disappointed in a movie.  I love Will Smith.  I think he is an amazing actor and he seems to be an even better person...but he really missed the mark on picking this film.

This movie is over the top in sentimentality and makes almost no sense.  I also think it glamorized and glorified suicide and makes something selfish and sad look selfless.  I really had a hard time believing the whole premise of the movie and even had a difficult time trying to figure out what the actual message was.

I was hoping for an inspirational, moving, beautiful, life-affirming type of movie and and was left saying, "WHAT?"  I've never seen people hop out of their seats faster to leave a movie and even saw some people get up and exit in the middle.

The acting was great but the film itself was just bad.  I have no idea how the screenplay even made it to production.  What was Will thinking?

I really wanted this to be a great movie.  I wanted to believe in it and even suspended reality a number of times trying to just enjoy the idea and direction of the movie.  I knew what was happening from the beginning and was just hoping that there was going to be some unexpected twist that would make sense of everything in a very meaningful way.

No such luck.  Will Smith's character kills himself and it's supposed to be a good thing...I'm speechless.

Has anyone else seen it?  What did you think?

bummer.

Hi, Davina,

I am so glad to see someone actually say what this movie is about. I think the way that they have gotten so many people to see it is by being overly mysterious about the plot. As a person who had 2 family members commit suicide, I would have been HORRIFIED to find out that is what this movie is about sitting in a theater. I don't think any of the people so anxious to see the movie would want to knowing that was the big secret. Sorry you had to find out the hard way. I saw Millie hated it, too.

I felt the same way! It has such a strange trailer to it on TV.. you almost had to go and see it just to see what it was about! But I also HATED the fact that he killed himself in the end.. and that they showed it so graphically. The whole time I was hoping that he would change his mind... that is probably the only reason I myself stayed. I am also a HUGE Will Smith fan, and was very disappointed in this one. Thanks for sharing.

I saw it yesterday and hated it so bad I had to go see another movie last night just to get over it. I REALLY expected more from Will Smith, especially after seeing the preview. Suicide is NOT right in any context and although this COULD have been a beautiful love story, I left wanting WAY more out of it and knowing it #1. was not even worth my time to converse over and #2. I would NEVER watch it again. A real disappointment. I agree great acting but we needed a MUCH better ending and not to be left with questions in the end.

*Regina,I'm so glad that you won't have to sit through this movie. I agree on the way the made the trailers look mysterious. I thought we were in for a much better ending and a much better story.

I'm so sorry to hear about the people in your family...that must have been devastating for you.

*Courtney...ugh. I completely agree on every point you made!

*Millie, I wish we would have talked before I went to see it last night! Mike and I felt the same way. We wanted to go to another movie but we had seen the last showing of the night. It was a waste of time. It had the potential to be something incredible. I said to Mike, "This could have been such a great movie if it would have been a different movie." That sounds silly but it really did have a couple of things that could have worked with a better storyline and screenplay. Man accidentally kills 7 people in a car crash, spending his life trying to make it right, changes and enriches the lives of 7 people....it had the beginnings of something really great and then went and got all dark and weird and completely uninspiring. ugh, again.

We saw it and agree disappointing although I found some positive in it, but the overall message was not good.

Take the kids and go see Bedtime Stories. It is hilarious and family friendly!

BUMMER! I'm always looking for a solid movie and I was bankin' on this one. I heard it was passed over for an oscar, but I guess this is why. He was amazing in Pursuit of Happyness.

Happy New Year!

I totally agree with you. My father unexpectedly committ suicide in September. First of all, from the trailers of this movie you would have no idea that there was such a dark side to it. Then like you said, to glorify suicide like that... I was very disappointed in it myself. Left me very upset.

Becky, you're right there are a few postives in the movie. For me, the overall message overwhelmed most every thing else.

Lain, my kids keep asking to see that! :)

Robin, I was hoping for the same.

Alisha...sorry to be the bearer of bad news...

Ashley, I'm so sorry to hear about your father. I can see how this movie would be very upsetting for you. Again, I'm so sorry for your unexpected loss...
