Kitchen.
real. LIFE.
I've been a little hesitant to post my house because even though I LOVE IT!!! I haven't given it a home makeover treatment since moving in. I have all kinds of things that I'd like to do but having 5 other people who need things that have to do with money and time my house is kind of on hold. I've gotten to set up most rooms and I'm loving living here and the way it's looking even though I've not gotten to do any painting or official decorating...it's already feeling like home.
So...here is my not finished house that is starting to feel like home...
Above is a vintage postcard I found at an antique store (okay...I am soooo loving the amount of flea markets and antique stores here...those so were NOT in abundance back west...I'm in heaven.). I think that this vintage postcard totally sums up the way I'm feeling about life, business, love, and what is important. It's funny and "there's a deeper meaning in that"---to quote 'Much Ado About Nothing'.
I'm also showing you my very messy inspiration board that is already very full of fun stuff I've cut from magazines and gotten from catalogs. It's stuff I love...and I want to see how it all comes together on my board. I'm interested in what path a room may end up taking as it evolves with me adding and taking away from my deco/inspiration file.
A home really is a process for me not an event. It will take a long time for me to add this piece, find that perfect lamp, discover the awesome sofa that marries retro, eclectic, and modern lines all into one, and the right color of hardwood flooring. Life is all about the day to day, the details of the moments, and the fun relationships. I want what I bring into my home to mean something wonderful that shows all of those things...so until then I'll just be doing a little here and a little there.
Oh! And we have a great penisula (it's much bigger than it looks in these pics) that the kids sit at every morning and eat breakfast on one side while I make their sack lunches on the other side. I love it! The stools we have right now though are really too big (the one Gracie is sitting in) and I would like some that don't have a back. I'm thinking I would love these retro/vintage stools in ocean color! (click here) What do you think?

You are so cute and I really love the way your mind thinks! I have an inspiration board for how my home will look like one day too. I put all of my magazine clippings in a binder and organize them all by room, lol. Oh and I love the little pink roses in their vases on the table. Very cute!
Thanks, Caroline! The binder sounds like a good idea. I've been thinking I would just start sticking pictures on the walls of the rooms that I thought they would look good in!
I think the stools you like would really add w/o alot of cost. A great starting point. I agree with the lack of antique stores in Utah and those that are around are over priced. That's just one thing I miss about life in No. Carolina. Glad to hear and see your loving your new home/life.
Look at how long Gracie's hair is getting! She is so cute! I love your kitchen even if it isn't finished yet! I know that feeling! Randy and I just finished painting ours... Our house is still a work in progress.
Jackie, I just went to a huge flea market that happens the first weekend of the month here. It's amazing! Thanks for the vote on the bar stools. I think they give the kitchen just what it needs. I also want to do something really cool with the backsplash all the way around the kitchen under the cupboards and above the counter...
Shanda, yes! Gracie's hair is getting long and she thinks it's so great. She's talking about ironing it for Halloween so that she can be Sleeping Beauty! lol. What color did you paint your kitchen?
I agree, the stools would be cool in Ocean color. Our kitchen is so fun and so is our whole house. I love it here...
