Move it Monday.

having a plan.
Once again I have a great link and thoughts from my awesome insurance lady that wants to make sure I'm staying fit.
- Spend some quality time with family and/or friends
- Be active with family/friends – get outside, have your own family or community fun run, play Frisbee, catch, ride bikes, whatever you enjoy
- Be safe! For most of us, it will be hot outside. If you're outdoors, remember to stay cool, hydrated, and wear sunscreen!
- No celebration is complete without the food! Here are some healthy recipes you can try if you'd like: http://www.eatingwell.com/recipes/collections/healthy_4th_recipes.html
I do have to say that I have not been drinking enough water. I think that's going to be my big push this week.
Last night we all gathered around the table and chatted about being a fit and healthy family....completely instigated by Emmett. He has decided to start a fitness program with scouts. As a family, we've decided to all get on board. We have a plan to start walking as a family in the evenings, reading nutrition labels on waht we buy, eating a lot more fruits and veggies, playing basketball in our cul de sac, and finding ways to be active as a family.
Here's to being a fit and healthy family!
fit. LIFE.

*gruuuuuuumble* Laura. Not liking the 'it'll get you in August' thought. You're probably right, thou.
BUT on sparkpeople, it did say if you limit your caloric intake too much, your body might think it's in famine mode, so every once in awhile you gotta splurge a bit on calories. maybe that's what happened? I'll keep telling myself that until you slap me w/ some reality, Laura!!!
ps-it's stinkin' 100 degrees here. ugh. too hot to walk around here and i'm not supposed to drive my car much. it might break down again, so I am resigned to YouTube workouts at home. pft.
I'm sure I'm wrong. I bet sparkpeople have it right! :)
We finally got a break on the heat. It is limiting.
walked for an our this morning. I was a sweaty mess by the time it was all said and done. but i beat the heat!!!!
Good for you Karen!
I pulled my back a little from gardening. Never fails. I was wondering which would be better. Stomach tape or walk?
I had a little walk to Starbucks this afternoon. Just right. :)
Sit up tape this morning. Made my back and brain feel better.
Off to Tahoe today. Hopefully I can get online so Karen doesn't tromp me!
I've not been giving much advice around here ....
but today, I had a nice, 40-minute walk. :)
In the last few days, I've been doing the abs + butt videos on YouTube. :)
Great job Karen! I think those abs videos really make a difference. I've been doing twice a week for a month and I'm feeling stronger. Guess what? I'm in Tahoe with internet connection!!!
Walked 7 1/2 miles today along the Truckee River bike trail. It was an amazing day and I had the distraction of watching the rafters going down river. I'm glad to get my big walk for the week overwith as I always get nervous beforehand. Also I walked by myself so only had myself to chit chat with. :)
Have to admit, it was a lazy day. Sitting by the lake under an umbrella living the life. Did get in a short walk though. Feeling relaxed and happy.
Laura, I wish you and Karen could be at Love Affair, too!
I do, too, Davina!!!!!!
We spent the last 2 days car shopping. Ugh. I was more physically exhausted after that than most workouts.
Laura, you are spanking me ....
Ooh! My vacation brain forgot to Move it Monday yesterday! I did do my 30 minute walk but forgot to check in. I'm feeling better about it now that I see Karen has been AWOL too!
I'm sure Love Affair is going smashingly. Someday. :)
we did about 45 min worth of walking yesterday.
i don't like going out of town b/c it throws my sleeping schedule off. well, ERIK being out of town throws my sleeping schedule off, if that makes sense. we've been married almost a year now, and we still have issues sharing a bed. i'm a wiggler + apparently "Karen takes her half out of the middle" .... and Erik is a second shifter, so he comes to bed 2 to 5 hours after I do. ugh.
ok, so, laura .... your thought of my eating whatever will catch up ... not so. i've been down now for a week! :) I seem to be evening out, but I'd like to kick a few more LBS off before I have some portraits done at the end of the month.
Karen, great job holding off the pounds! I am such a lazy girl up here at Tahoe. I actually had a portrait sitting yesterday for a senior boy. They are so much easier than two year olds!!!
I think tomorrow we'll be going for a bike ride along the Truckee river then off to our favorite breakfast restaurant. Still wheat and dairy free...
My tip. Drink decaf iced green tea as an alternative to water. Tastes good and gives an anti-oxidant boost! You can even drop a tea bag into your water bottle without heating the water.
Okay, today...lazy I was not! I walked 8 miles and thankfully my sister came with me. I've heard it said that you learn everything about your running/walking companions because you spend so much time with them. In our case, it was really great to have some quality time away from our kids to catch up. Enjoying the rafters along the river was great too.
Any tips today? Sometimes I get frustrated that after all the work I put in I'm not further in my "fitness." I go down my mental checklist to see what small steps I can do make more progress. Unfortunately I keep coming back to "no sugar."
I was thinking of a challenge to see if I could get a buddy to do this with me. I was thinking of the Seinfeld show where they had a contest to see who was "master of their domain." We could adapt this challenge to no sugar. :)
Anyone?!
I was reading BH&G and a sort-of tip would be to change things up. It said your body burns calories less efficently after it gets used to something. So, you walk a lot? Maybe throw in a bike ride to change things up? -
Also, I had blueberries on my cereal this morning. I don't particularly LIKE blueberries (unless they're in pancakes), but I know they're good in all sorts of things my body needs. So if I hide them in other things, I'm more likely to eat them. :)
ps-laura, you're kicking my butt this time around.
pss-Davina, I know you're busy .... but my gift card from last time??? I'm getting ready to attack the patio this week!
P.S. Karen, glad to do it! :) I hope we meet someday. We'd have a hoot.
Back from Tahoe. It was amazing and challenging.
My dad orchestrated the best sunset show ever for our last night there. What a gift.
P.S. again. My husband is getting prepared for family bike rides on the weekends. That will be a good exercise diversion. Besides, bike riding is on my top five list of things that make me happy. :)
