Barbara and Sterling.

artist.

Sterling is an oil painter that had a space near my studio when I was in Utah.  We had been talking for ages about getting his shoot scheduled and when he found out I was moving it decided it was time.  We did a quick shoot at his home with his wife, Barbara.

Sterling has been so good to me.  He has been extremely generous to me and Gracie adores him.  He's one of the artists that always made Gracie feel like such a big girl.  Every day she would check to see if he was in his studio and if he was she would go down to chat with him and usually come back with some beautiful piece of artwork she'd done with pastels or markers on cool watercolor paper.

Sterling and Barbara's home is filled with a lifetime of memories and art and sweet beauty.  I'm so glad I got to spend a little time with them before I left...

together.

I met Freda a couple of years ago at a wedding...Ticey's wedding.   We hit it off right away.  Freda is so fun to hang out with and I have loved hearing her take on so many things that have to do with weddings and life.

Matt and Freda each have a little girl and they are both excited to become sisters.  We definitely wanted to get some pictures to capture the sweetness of these two families coming together in marriage.  Before we met up with the girls we headed out to the Farmer's Market in downtown Salt Lake.  What a great market!  If you haven't been there you totally need to go...it's every Saturday morning....

When we arrived to hang out with the girls we went to the neighbors to check out their backyard...there were also popsicles!  Freda and Matt also told me that there was a path up in the mountains that they like to walk on together.  We got up to Silver Lake and there was still snow on the ground with a really cool pathway going through the lake and reeds.  We had fun trying to make sure we didn't fall through the snow!

fun. times.

I met Melissa and Juan back on a very cold night when there was a horrible snow storm.  They trekked through the blizzard from Salt Lake and gratefully made it to my studio and home safely.    During that time chatting we came up with so many great ideas for their get to know you.

When I found out that they both had been part of rallies I knew that we had to do something with their protest signs.  We ran out on to the street corner and they worked it with their signs.  We met at their house...which, I think, I was the first official visitor.  They had stayed up late the night before finishing the painting.  It's the perfect place for a newly married couple!

A little later we headed out to a great salsa club in Salt Lake.  (I totally have spaced the name, Melissa and Juan, you'll have to remind me in the comments....).  The lighting there was difficult even with the little bit of lighting I brought.  But we kept trying new things and ended up with some really cool images.

I'm so looking forward to Melissa and Juan's wedding.  I had such a fun time with them at their shoot, I''m sure their wedding is going to be super cool with some great, unique things thrown in the mix.

laugh.

After a very hectic and long day for Tiffany and Sam we finally go to spend some down time together.  I had wanted to meet them for quite a while and we had so much fun when we got together even though we mainly just laughed and talked together.  Tiffany and Sam love to go to the Gateway and the planetarium.  Tiffany and Sam love to laugh.  I think they can have a great time together no matter what they do.

art and dancing.

When Liberty and Nick and I were trying to figure out what to do for our get to know you shoot we ended up with such a long list of things we had a hard time narrowing down what we would do.  Nick's family has restored cars so we decided to meet at their family garage and had some fun with really cool lighting.

Liberty is an amazing artist and paints some great pieces.  When I walked into their front room and saw Liberty's current project I knew we had to incorporate it into the shoot.  While Liberty paints, Nick plays video games and they have fun teasing each other.

On Friday nights Liberty and Nick go to ballroom dance classes.  The class is a family affair with Liberty's brother and his girlfriend and Liberty's mom and dad.  We had fun with the sexy little cha-cha-cha that they learned.

I'm excited about Liberty and Nick's wedding.  I think it's going to be summery-beautiful. Liberty has some wonderful ideas to make everything light and romantic.

What a fun time!  Thanks, Liberty and Nick!
