Baxter Village Spring Fling: Fort Mill, SC Photographer

photo booth.

Ten days ago my kids, my husband, and I created a really fun photo booth for the Baxter Village Spring Fling.  I could never have pulled this off without them.  I'm so grateful for their help and the fun we had working together.  I love them...I'm lucky.

The Baxter Village Spring Fling is one of the premier events that happen in Baxter Village.  It's designed to have a small, hometown feel with booths lining both sides of downtown, a 5k in the morning, events through out the day, and bands playing through out the night.

During the day families come out to the Spring Fling to have fun walking around and participating in activities.  We decided having a photo booth would be a great way to add to the fun for everyone attending...and it did!  yay!

So...here's a little peek at our day.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by our booth and had a little fun!

Article in PPA Magazine!

Posted on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at 07:00PM by Registered CommenterDavina in , | Comments10 Comments

I still can't believe it.

My kids believe it though!  Everyone that comes to my house, my kids rush them at the door and tell them that they are famous because they are in a magazine.  They are thrilled with themselves!

I'm so excited about this article in Professional Photographer Magazine...

First, I'm completely honored to be part of the article with other magnificent women, Laura Cottril, Melanie Mauer, Claudia Kronenberg, and Elaine Yarbrough and many other women.  These women have gone through years of business and hardship to make it to where they are now.  Sharing insight together on how to get through the tough years of being in over your head to a place where you can love business and family life was a treat.  Lorna put together all of our ideas in such a cohesive, beautiful and helpful way.  Bravo to her!

I love that PPA is addressing this issue that has become an increasing struggle for so many photographers.  One of the great things about being part of PPA is that they are always addressing the issues that professional photographers face...this being one of many.

Thank you especially to Laura Cottril who mentioned my name to Cameron Bishopp.  You are a generous and incredible woman.  I'm humbled by your act of sharing the spotlight with other women.  I look forward to the day we sit together at a table and enjoy the chance to talk.  I'm in awe of the year that you've been through and the woman that you are.

GYLB kit Contest: Do you love a Bed and Breakfast?

Posted on Sunday, November 22, 2009 at 07:43PM by Registered CommenterDavina in , , | Comments21 Comments

NOTE:  This contest has been extended until Tuesday, November 24th at 11am ET.  The winner will be announced on Tuesday afternoon right before we launch the Get your LIFE back kit!

a night away and a get your LIFE back kit.

The get your LIFE back kit is about helping women take a break and rethink the the chaos and overwheming aspects of their lives...it's time to breathe.  And breathe deeply.  SO this contest is going to help someone do just that!

I want to encourage women to live life fully and with awareness.  Stop the break neck speed that you're currently running at and notice the lovely view, the beautiful deep blue sky, the smell of bonfires in the air, the star filled sky, the crisp air, the smell of a warm child just up from a nap, the cuddle of a loved one, the blessing of good food...drink it in and love the moment.

THIS CONTEST:

What do I do?

Nominate a woman (or person) that you think deserves a night away at a bed and breakfast, where breakfast is made for her instead of by her.  In the comments section of this post (or send me an email at davina at davinafear dot com) name the person you nominate and in 2 sentences or less why she (or he) needs a night away.  Give as much detail as you can in the two sentences or less.

What will the winner win?

The winner will receive a night away at a bed and breakfast that she/he chooses (value $200) and a Get your LIFE back kit (value $120).  (Total value $320)

When does the contest end?

The contest ends tomorrow, Monday November 23rd, at 5pm ET (this contest has been extended until Tuesday, November 24th at 11am ET).  Make sure to be quick to get your nominations into the comments...this is going to be a fast contest!

Sneak Peek: New studio floor

Posted on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at 10:46AM by Registered CommenterDavina in , | Comments2 Comments

new floor.

Some of you have seen my facebook status saying that I'm trying to put new floors into my studio.  Once we got past the complications of putting the flooring in around the door we've gotten a little more momentum going.  Hopefully, we'll be finishing tonight.  I'll give you a bit of peek at what we've finished and show you how much Gracie is loving the new floor...

I'm very excited and now that I've moved everything out of my studio and I'm seeing this super cool white Ikea Tundra floor going in, I've got ideas...thoughts rolling around inside my head.  I'm posting a couple of pictures from magazines to show you some things I love.  I'm trying to put my thoughts together of what I'd like my studio to look like now.  I don't know that I'll be making any major changes yet but they'll be coming!

I love this room (magazine tear out below), except with a white floor.  As I look through magazines and tear things out, I'm leaning toward an Ikea/West Elm meets Anthropologie/Etsy kind of look...

What do you think?  Do you have pictures, inspiration, fun stuff that you think I'd love?  Send it to me at davina at davinafear dot com  I'd love your thoughts and ideas!!

Our new home!

Posted on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 09:11PM by Registered CommenterDavina in , | Comments8 Comments

in love.

Our house is so wonderful!  It's almost 1,000 square feet bigger than the house we just moved from and it has an amazing backyard.  I love that there are all kinds of trees and living things back there.  I'm so looking forward to the kids playing in our almost 1/2 an acre yard where we have a LOT less mowing to do!  As Ann, our neighbor knows, we had a pretty hard time keeping up with mowing our huge yard in Utah with our push mower.

When you walk in our house there is a huge room that I'll be using for my studio until I find one in the price range I'm looking for.  I'm very excited about it and I'm looking forward to seeing how my awesome studio in Utah transfers into my home...that will be a while yet, though.  I've got to get the rest of my family settled into our home before I get my studio up and running.

The kitchen is along the back of the house with a great breakfast nook and family room.  There are some wonderful windows all along the back of the house that I really love.  All of that natural north light coming in is just gorgeous.  At the top of the stairs is a loft/sitting room where we'll have the art room....and a great sitting area.  I'm excited about how that room is going to evolve.

All of the bedrooms are upstairs.  This is a huge plus for our new house.  In Utah Emmett was downstairs from the rest of us and that got old really quick.  The heater, water heater, washer/dryer, and all of the weird house noises were down there freaking him out every night.  He was upstairs sleeping more than he was downstairs, I think.  We also have a guest room and can't wait to have Grandma and Grandpa and the cousins over soon.

We're also loving that we're finally going to have a bathroom in our bedroom.  This will be the first time since we got married almost 14 years ago.  Yay!

We are so excited to be living here in South Carolina and especially thrilled about our home.  Come and visit us!
