Happy Anniversary!
Cierra and Tyson.
I had such a great time hanging out with Cierra and Tyson. For their get to know you shoot we did so many fun things because they loved to long board, go to amusement parks, to the store and get treats and then to the drive-in movie...it was such a great date. I was so excited to get to go along.
fun. LIFE.
Happy Anniversary!
Morgan and Chris.
This couple is so sweet. I loved being at their wedding and how perfect their love seemed to be for each other. The whole day and evening was so much fun. Watching them smoosh cake in each others face and then run through gathered up rose petals at the end of the night was so much fun. Morgan and Chris are also such generous people. I'm glad I know them.
sweet. LOVE.
The Kids and the Corn Maze
The Punkinaze.
Last year we went to the Punkinaze and had a great time. This year the kids were so excited when we announced on Saturday that we were going to the corn maze again. Not only does it have a great puzzle to get through it also has super tall, wide, fun slide. It's definitely one of the highlights of the trip! The girls loved playing in the corn and being buried. Their laughing made me laugh.
I have a love/hate relationship with Google Reader.
Ohmigosh! It's been too long since I've looked at blogs and I just went to look at my google reader where I have all of the blogs that I check and would you believe that there were over 1000 entries posted since I last looked? Holy COW! This is the reason that I've stopped looking at blogs so much...I'm completely overwhelmed when I go to my Google Reader.
So today, I left my Google Reader and just acted like it didn't exist and went and looked at some of my fave local people's blogs. There are some amazing people around me and I'm so grateful to know them. They've blessed my life in different and wonderful ways and I'm so impressed by the work they do! Rebekah, Kate, David...and so many others. Thank you!
100 Simple Secrets
I love this book!
When I gave my presentation in LA at the Pictage Partnercon I had no idea that this book even existed. I talked about so many things I knew just worked and were things that I'd been doing to make my life better and more balanced and as a result...more happy. The thing I love about this book is that so many of the things I talked about are in this book...with scientific findings to back them up. How cool is that?!
So I decided to share some of my favorite ideas from this book along with thoughts from my PIctage presentation. Let me know what you think in the comments!
So...here are a few for today:
#7: Turn off the TV (and/or the computer). A quote from this book is "TV robs our time and never gives back." I also remember reading in a John Canfield or Jack Walsh book "Stop watching other people live their dreams and turn off the TV and live your own." The scientific proof that the TV robs us of happiness? "TV can triple our hunger for more..., while reducing our personal contentment by about 5% for every hour a day we watch." How crazy is that? I have so many shows I love to watch. Just not watching them could really bless my life, I'm sure! I mentioned the idea of getting away from your laptop or not even bringing it home in LA. I even suggested not turning it on at all until you've gotten out of bed, made your bed (more on that later!), gotten dressed, had some devotional or scripture time, journaled, etc...THEN you may turn on your computer. Otherwise, if you get up and say, "Oh. I'm just going to check my email really quick." Where are you an hour later? 2 hours later? 3 hours later? Pretty soon you never got out of your pjs or showered today and it's almost time to go back to bed
And that's another thing!
#54: GO TO BED. I know all of you do it! You all stay up way too late thinking it's the only time you get to work. But how good of a mood are you in the next day? Or when you're going on the 3rd day of late nights? Your perspective starts to get a little wigged out. And there's scientific evidence in this handy little book that backs me up! Thank you very much, David Niven! lol. Here's a little science for you: "Quality and quanitity of sleep contribute to health, well-being, and a positive outlook. For those who sleep less than eight hours, every hour of sleep sacrificed resuls in an 8% less positive feeling about their day." It's time for bed!
#11: Friendship Beats Money. I think we all believe this but I wonder how many of us live like we believe it. What really struck me about this particular idea was the scientific findings: "Contrary to the belief that happiness is hard to explain, or that it depends on having great wealth, researchers have identified the core factors in a happy life. The primary components are number of friends, closeness of friends, closeness of family, and relationships with co-workers and neighbors. Together these features explain about 70 percent of personal happiness." Just thinking through my days I started taking inventory of how much time I'm really devoting to these relationships and how much time I devote to my business and was asking myself if I'm feeding the wrong things too much of my time. I've definitely changed a few things this week to try and make relationships an absolute priority to me so that the people I care about don't wonder if I love my business more that I love them. This idea was actually a pretty big point of my presentation. I challenged those who attended to do something TODAY to get balance back in their life. I suggested calling a friend (not a photography or work friend...we all had friends BP-before photography-take the time for one of those friendships or for one of your children or your husband (TODAY).
Have fun building a relationship today, getting to bed early, and living your dreams!
