The Sequel: Father's Day
Melissa wrote to me about her dad's reaction to her sweet, heartfelt essay that she wrote for the Father's Day contest. I wanted to share it here with everyone (and Melissa did, too). So many people voted and I wanted to let you know how happy it made the winning dad. It also reminded me of how important it is to take the time to write to those we love and let them know what it is that has endeared them to us so much. We have so many gifts in our lives. Melissa's Dad is one of her gifts and that was a gift to her Dad.
Her note:
Davina,
I thought I'd share with you my father's reaction to the contest.
My sister was in town this weekend so finding the right time was tricky since I wanted it to be more personal and private since my mom warned me that he would cry. While my sister was at the grocery store, I pulled my gift out to give him. He told me that I shouldn't have bought him anything at which point I told him that he needed to open the gift for me to explain it all. He pulled out a nice black frame that my mom had purchased for my entry and looked at me questionably. I then explained the contest and how that was my entry, the winning entry. He made it maybe half way through before breaking down and crying. It was truly a special moment and he told me that it didn't matter that I had won because my entry was the best gift he could've ever recieved. Thank you so much Davina for having the contest.
Not because I won, but because I was able to give my dad what I had wrote. I wouldn't have ever thought to do something like that and I'm so glad I did have that oppurtunity. He has now cried multiple times over it. Even at work when he had to say something good that's happened recently in his life at a meeting. He said he probably won't be able to read it for several more years because he cries everytime, and has told me multiple times that it is the best gift he's ever recieved. Thank you for giving me the chance to honor my father. It meant a lot to me to be able to give him that and I"m excited about the shoot.
Thank you again!
Melissa Brady
Anne
Anne Ruthmann is an incredible photographer! When we were at the Foundation Workshop back in February we drew names from a hat and then did a quick shoot of the person we chose. I chose Anne! She is spends a lot of time on the computer and laughs a lot. She is a wonderful person with such great energy...and she is so funny! I love that I know her and that she is a friend of mine. I'm very blessed.
Opera Singer
I totally love opera. (In fact, ages ago I was a voice performance major in college and my voice is classically trained...crazy, right?) I especially love to hear Pavarotti sing Nessun Dorma. It's an amazing experience and always stirs intense emotion in me to hear his voice soar over the words and notes. The piece is moving when someone with an incredible voice sings it.
When I clicked on the link about Paul Potts singing I had no idea what to expect. The moment his voice began to soar I was entranced and moved by the power of his voice and the humility of his life. Here are some of the clips of his performances. Let me know what you think.
This Weekend: The Gateway Wedding Show
This weekend is The Gateway Wedding Show!!! Wohoo!
I LOVE this show. It's the only show that I do because it's so amazing, elegant, fashionable, and has great couture. There's no other show in Utah like it. Even if you're not getting married it's worth the fun just to come to it so you can see the couture runway show. The gowns are gorgeous and there is always a nationally and/or internationally featured designer. At the last show was Anne Barge, a year ago was Justina McCaffery, and this show it's Augusta Jones. The Augusta Jones Fashion Runway shows will be at noon and 2pm. There will also be a show for men's wedding fashion at 3pm and 5pm. You won't want to miss this show. It's on Saturday, June 23rd from 10am-6pm in The Gateways' Grand Hall (South Temple and 400 West in Salt Lake City).
And, of course, make sure to stop and see me! If you have any friends or family getting married bring them along so we can chat about their day. Can't wait to see you there!!
Fun Family
Wolfenbarger Family.
We packed the day full of things to do. We hung out at their house for a while and got to know each other to start out. Lily is such a sweet little baby and has such gorgeous blue eyes. Will is such a sports nut. He knows pretty much everything there is to know about the NBA playoffs. Carlie is such a cutie and a collector. When I saw her colorful purse and bag collection I knew we had to get her wearing them. I love her sweet little personality that came out. Taylor is an absolute horse lover. When we finally got to her horses at the end of the shoot she was in heaven. We also got to go to the golf course and do some putting around. I love that Will is always so excited that he runs after every putt.
The Wolfenbarger's are such a sweet family. I'm so glad I got to hang spend some time with them and be part of all of the things that they love.
SWEET. LOVE.
